What is the truth? There are a lot of definitions in the world , and none of them can exactly say and explain what this word really means. In my opinion people are the ones who define the truth. They can choose in what to believe, what is right and what is wrong. Truth differs from the well-known facts , for example that Earth rotates around its axis. Truth is not knowledge. Every single person in the world can find «his truth» using his emotions. sense perception or his/her language. Those ways of knowing can affect our understanding of truth, but it has always been better to have your own view on this world and have a personal.
Considering all four ways of knowing, the three that are most important for me are language, sense perception and emotions. Those are different to each other but putting them together can greatly simplify the way to the truth. They can help with the process of understanding the things in your own way and end up with your own view on the subjects, because language is more about meaning and talking, while the sense perception is related to seeing and believing. Firstly I look at the language. This way of knowing is the main bond between the minds of people on the planet.
Thinking of the truth in terms of language the first thing that pops into my head is the brain-working process. During this process we talk to ourselves, make decisions and other variety of things that one can imagine. Without language people are weak. How much could they know about what is going on around them or just what is going on in the world if people had no language or no means with communicating with each other? May be tomorrow someone will open the tenth planet and what I thought I knew turned out to be false. Everyday I can consume the “new truth”.
Something I did not know before. I do know that the sun is a star , because it is written all over the scientific books. I can assert that is true until there is no other suggestion what sun it is. Language involves the vocabulary , which can be used in order to express your thoughts, your own theories and in order to be able to understand the meaning of words. This can be helpful when people exchange their views on things and either agree or disagree with each other. This is an example of determining the truth. Body language is another side of justifying the truth.
For instance, psychologists operate with body language in their practice to make patients feel comfortable and to believe them by using the same poses, similar gestures and the eye contact. This process could work the other way round. I often exercise this one to find out whether the person I am talking to is telling the truth or not. For example I was facing a lot of situations in my life when people tried to avoid the gaze or started to mumble. My immediate response to the behaviour like that is very suspicious. Than I am starting to realize that the person is lying to me.
However, it does not always work. Some people that I have met in my life were able to defend from this method. In such cases the sense perception is quite useful. But it takes longer time. In my understanding, sense perception related to observations and making the conclusions. Five years ago my family went to the Dubai on holidays. The weather was very hot, so we decided to swim in the sea. As I went into the water I was surrounded by a couple of jellyfish. My first impression of them was wrong. Under the water they were pink, but when my father pulled them out they were actually transparent.
That was the first time I started to doubt what I see. Who knows, may be the sky above us is not blue, but purple. On the other hand I have always believed in a slogan –“Until I see and touch I do not believe. ” So, from my previous statement I can conclude that seeing is believing. But since my beliefs and expectations can affect the way I see things, it is better to say that believing is seeing. For example I like to draw. While doing that I have a tendency to put on paper not exactly what I see, but what I think is there. Truth defined by emotions is personal. I might be feeling differently from other people .
I consider myself as very emotional person, so emotions plays a great role in my attitude to things. My perception of truth entirely depends on how I feel about words which has been said to me, or how I feel about what I see. Knowing myself I have to say that I am a naive person in some way. I prefer to believe the best in people. I care too much. Sometimes that causing me problems. I used to have a friend. She was nice and kind when we first met, so I wanted to get to know her. But there were a rumours that she was a selfish girl, who can easily betrayed her friends. I can not even imagine that might be true.
But it was. The rest off the story has a sad ending, but it was the lesson for me. Since then I try not to let my feelings or emotions to lead me to the wrong way. Finishing to write my essay I came to the conclusion that truth can be everything that surrounds me. I and only I decide whether to believe in what I say, what I see and what I feel. I have my own ways in justifying the truth, and of course , my opinion can be different from the others . For example some people believe what reasoning is the only one right way to lead to truth. No need to argue with that. I know ,what I believe.
