Feed the rest of the world. It

Feed by M. T Anderson, 2002 Love, Peer Pressure, what some people have over others are some powerful themes that affect my interpretation of the book. Technology takes over in this futuristic novel where the Feed, a sort of supercomputer, is put into your brain and keeps you connected with the rest of the world. It is sort of a large market economy where all the corporations are in control.

The two main characters of the story, Titus & Violet, are two very different people who fall in love on the Moon.Violet came from a family who were not as high- tech as the rest of the world, and because of that, she didn’t get the Feed until she was around 7 years old. She and Titus end up getting hacked on the Moon, and along with that, and Violet’s late implantation, her Feed malfunctions faster and she gets closer and closer to death. Things are changing. Change along with them or die. It is how the book is, and if change happens and you don’t go along with it, death or defeat is sure to come.

Since Violet got the Feed implanted late, her brain already started development, so her Feed is going to malfunction and deteriorate faster than everybody else. This is one example of change because if her parents stayed with the times and how things were changing, she could have gotten the Feed earlier and not get hurt. “It makes good times even better when you know they are going to end. (145-6)” “We went to the moon to have fun, but the moon turned out to completely suck. 1)” Titus says the Moon sucked because he and his friends got hacked up there. Another example of change is that if they didn’t go to the Moon, and change up their normal day, he would have not met Violet, and the plot of the book would be very different. In fact, Titus did not even want to go to the Moon, his friends did though. So he went with the change and ended up meeting a girl that changed his life.

Change was everywhere around Titus in this book, it was constantly happening. And if he did not go with it, the book would be different. Pretty much the biggest change in this book was the Feed and the Feed-net itself. It was the main part of the book, the little supercomputer in the brain in more than 97% of the world’s population in this book. “And the Feed was pouring in on us now, all of it, all of the Feed-net, and we could feel all of our favorites. (70)” This is the change, this is the main part of the book. This could be where we in the real world could be headed.

ThisFeed was the difference, it was the new thing. The real change. Change is all around us, not just big change, but little, tiny changes that make up the big ones. As a society, we must continue and change for the better along with this.

I know that I will change. There is no stopping change; in fact it is so gradual that people might not even notice it happening. And when that happens, the change stays forever. My idea is that as I grow up and as time moves along, change will happen, and I will stay with it.I will not be left behind, I don’t like that. As change comes, and if I have children, I will make sure they are up to date with all the change in the world.

Change is nothing new, but when it happens, let’s hope it happens for the better. “You toss something up in the air, and you expect it to come back down again. (175)” Change happens when it doesn’t come down and becomes part of the air. It is the difference in the world, and it makes the world go round.
