Career planning- the deliberate process through which someone becomes aware of personal skills, interests, knowledge, motivations, and other characteristics and establish action plans to attain specific goals. If the Carter Cleaning Company setting up a career planning program the company receives advantages such as improve leadership skills, keeping career on track, dealing with career problems, to help achieve educational targets effectively and also help to evaluate personality. A well-planned career helps to achieve goals.
As time passes by, growth and needs change. On my mind, every employee in the company must participate in the career planning program because through this program employees achieve formal education, utilize development opportunities, establish goals, assess interests and skills, values, and responsibility for her/his career. Training and development programs play important role in career planning program too. Program provides different opportunities for learning skills and attitudes related to job.
Through the career workshop every employee learning the event in which participant are expected to be actively involved. Career Development Program is lifelong activities which contribute to a person career exploration, establishment, and success. Career Development Programming is delivered through a combination of several processes and methods. I propose a career development program for Carter Cleaning Company which consists of individual development plan, career coaching/counseling plan, training and development program, and career workshop plan; and I hope it will be effective for the company.
Individual Development Plan- creates a career development plan to articulate your goals and plan concrete steps to achieve them. Assessment-identify current skills, knowledge, abilities, and interests; Goals- identify new skills goals, knowledge, and experiences which would like to acquire and have; Learning Purpose- identify gap between the current situation and desired outcome; Learning Objective- identify what skills, knowledge and abilities are to be acquired or enhanced. Outline of individual development plan: -Training classes are an important way to develop your skills and knowledge.
You may also want to consider other approaches like mentoring, cross-training, coaching, stretch assignments, leading a project team, serving on a committee, becoming involved in a professional association, attending conferences, pursuing self-paced learning through webinars, computer based training, listservs, books, and academic degree programs. -How do you want to develop professionally? -What are your short-term goals? What skills or knowledge do you need to acquire? -What are your long-term career goals, and what skills or knowledge will you need to reach them?
Career Coaching/ Counseling Program- involve helping to prepare for a career change or helping employees advance in their existing jobs. Career Coaching consists of evaluating interests, values, work styles and skills, matching employee talents with organizational needs, recruiting and retaining talent in the company. Outline of career coaching/counseling model: -Help employees create 1- to 5 year plan showing where their careers with the firm may lead; – Create develop plan on what employees need to move up.
Training and Development Program – provides opportunities for learning skills, information, and attitudes related to job; provides career path information. Outline of training and development programs: -Provide training of employees one or two times per month; -Provide resources and services are conveniently located and easily accessed; – Use information via audio-visual training because it’s more interesting for employees. A career workshop is a planned learning event in which participant are expected to be actively involved, completing career planning exercises and inventories, and participating in career skills practice sessions.
A typical workshop includes a self-assessment, an environmental assessment, and goal-setting and action-planning segments. Outline of workshop model: -Combine half-time group work on personal management, learning and work exploration and career building with half-time real work experience; – Teach managers/ supervisors about career coaching, feedback and mentorship, and support employees with targeted workshop; – Follow a three-week program on personal management, learning and work exploration and lifework building with on-the job experience and competency tracking for inmates; – Offer a ne or two day career building workshop for employees followed by one-to-one counseling; – Provide one-to-one career counseling as well as a course on career development.
